Edgecombe Community College: Your dynamic path to career success and community impact.
Edgecombe Community College stands as a vibrant public institution, dedicated to empowering its 2,151 students with the skills and knowledge needed for thriving careers and meaningful contributions to their community. More than just a college, ECC is a launchpad, offering diverse programs designed to meet the evolving demands of today's workforce and prepare students for immediate employment or seamless transfer to four-year universities.
Rooted in a rich history, the institution first opened its doors in 1967 as Edgecombe Technical Institute, an extension unit of Wilson County Technical Institute, with its inaugural classes commencing in August 1968. Over two decades of growth and adaptation, it proudly embraced its current name, Edgecombe Community College, in 1987, reflecting its expanded scope and comprehensive offerings that cater to a broader range of educational aspirations.
A significant highlight of ECC's commitment to cutting-edge education is its 45,000 square foot Biotechnology and Medical Simulation Center, which opened in January 2016 on the Rocky Mount campus. This state-of-the-art facility provides students with unparalleled hands-on experience and real-world training, making ECC a leading choice for those pursuing careers in health sciences, biotechnology, and other technical fields.
Under the leadership of President Gregory McLeod, who made history as ECC's first black president following Deborah Lamm's retirement in 2018, the college continues to foster an inclusive and forward-thinking environment.
