Edmonds College

Edmonds College stands as a vibrant public community college dedicated to serving its diverse student body of 10,320. Led by President Amit B. Singh, the college boasts a unique history, retaining the name "Edmonds" despite its Lynnwood address, a charming nod to its foundational classes held in leased space in Edmonds back in 1967. This institution has continuously adapted, growing from its initial modest beginnings to become a cornerstone of education in the region.

The college's history began in 1967 when the state legislature established 22 community college districts, including District 5 for Edmonds. Formal dedication ceremonies, featuring Senator Henry M. Jackson, marked its official launch. The college found its permanent home on a 50-acre site in Lynnwood, a former U.S. Army relay station, moving from temporary facilities in 1970. This rich past, including the story of its first graduate in 1968 and the evolution of its student newspaper, reflects a legacy of pioneering spirit and community engagement.

Academically, Edmonds College shines through its robust partnership with Central Washington University, established in 1975. This collaboration allows students to pursue various bachelor's and even a master's program directly on the Lynnwood campus, demonstrating a commitment to advanced educational opportunities. The opening of Snoqualmie Hall in 2002 solidified CWU's permanent presence, and the college's name was officially shortened to Edmonds College in April 2020 to better represent these comprehensive four-year degree offerings, signaling its continued evolution as an accessible and forward-thinking institution for prospective students and their families.
