Elmhurst University boasts a rich history, transforming from a 19th-century proseminary into a modern, comprehensive university. Its journey began in 1871, when it was established on land donated by Jennie and Thomas Barbour Bryan to prepare young men for theological studies and parochial school teaching. Initially focused on a German-taught curriculum, the institution adapted through the decades, reflecting a deep commitment to evolving educational needs while honoring its foundational purpose. The academic landscape at Elmhurst has expanded dramatically since its early days. After being renamed Elmhurst Academy and Junior College in 1919, its curriculum broadened to include subjects like public speaking, economics, and psychology. By 1924, it became a four-year college, eventually welcoming women in 1930 and achieving accreditation four years later. Today, Elmhurst continues to innovate, having launched graduate programs in 1998 and establishing the School for Professional Studies (SPS) in 2012, which offers a wide array of online undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs, catering to diverse learners.

Situated on a beautiful 48-acre campus in Elmhurst, Illinois, a vibrant suburb of Chicago, the university offers an exceptional student experience.
