Everett Community College

Everett Community College (EvCC) stands as a vital public community college, serving nearly 12,000 students with a commitment to accessible education and community development. Founded in 1941, EvCC has evolved from its humble beginnings as Everett Junior College into a cornerstone of learning in the region, adapting to meet the evolving needs of its diverse student body.

The college's journey began in 1941, with its first students attending classes in a converted elementary school. A significant milestone arrived in 1958 with the opening of a dedicated new campus in north Everett, initially featuring seven buildings that laid the foundation for its future expansion. The institution embraced its broader mission in 1967, officially changing its name to Everett Community College to reflect its comprehensive role in the Washington State community college system.

EvCC's history is also marked by a profound moment of resilience. In 1987, a devastating arson fire destroyed the main student services building and library, tragically claiming the life of firefighter Gary Parks. Yet, from this immense challenge, the community rallied. A new library and service building, a modern facility costing $8 million, rose from the ashes and opened in October 1988, dedicated to the memory of Gary Parks, symbolizing the college's unwavering spirit and commitment to its students and community.
