Since its transformation from American Flyers College in 1999, Everglades University has evolved into a not-for-profit university, providing a focused academic experience for those seeking bachelor's and master's degrees. With a history marked by strategic growth and a commitment to its educational mission, it offers a distinct pathway for higher learning in Florida.

The university's journey began in 1990 as American Flyers College, later acquired by Arthur and Belinda Keiser. Renamed Everglades College in 1999 and subsequently Everglades University in 2003, it embarked on a significant path to becoming an independently operated 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation by 2002. This transition underscores a dedication to mission-driven education. A pivotal moment occurred in 2011 when Everglades College, Inc., as the parent company, acquired the for-profit Keiser University, transitioning it to a non-profit entity as well, showcasing a broader commitment to non-profit higher education.

Academically, Everglades University is robustly accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor's and master's degrees, a reaffirmation it received in 2015 for ten years. Its footprint has expanded across Florida, with its main campus relocating to Boca Raton and branch campuses established in Sarasota and Orlando (now Maitland), with an instructional site in Tampa, offering accessibility for diverse student populations. While its recent inclusion in a student-loan borrower settlement was challenged by the university, the institution continues its mission to provide an educational environment where wisdom, truth, and integrity are paramount.
