Fayetteville Technical Community College

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) stands as a cornerstone of education and workforce development in North Carolina, proudly operating under its guiding motto, "Education for Life." Serving a thriving student body of 10,932, FTCC is dedicated to equipping individuals with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in today's dynamic job market. Its extensive reach extends beyond Cumberland County, embracing learners from surrounding areas, including Bladen, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland counties, as well as military personnel at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.

The college's rich history began in 1961 as the Fayetteville Area Industrial Education Center (IEC), founded by John Standridge with a clear mission: to provide vital job training and educational opportunities for high school graduates and adult learners. This crucial initiative evolved with the passing of the statewide Community College System bill in 1963, transforming the IEC into Fayetteville Technical Institute (FTI). Under the leadership of its first president, Howard Boudreau, the institution steadily grew, achieving its initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in 1967.

Responding to the evolving needs of the region and the vision of the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges, FTI proudly became Fayetteville Technical Community College in 1988. This name change was a strategic move to broaden and enhance the public perception of technical and vocational postsecondary education, aligning it with the demands of new and expanding industries.
