Fayetteville Technical Community College

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) stands as a cornerstone of education and workforce development in its region, proudly living up to its motto, "Education for Life." Serving over 10,900 students, this public community college is renowned for its comprehensive job training and educational opportunities, catering to high school graduates and adult learners alike. Its reach extends far beyond Cumberland County, impacting surrounding areas including Bladen, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland counties, as well as vital military communities at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.

The institution's rich history began in 1961 with the establishment of the Fayetteville Area Industrial Education Center (IEC) by John Standridge. This initial vision was to provide essential skills and knowledge to local residents, laying the groundwork for a dynamic educational future. The landscape of postsecondary education in North Carolina transformed in 1963 with the creation of the statewide Community College System, leading the IEC to officially become Fayetteville Technical Institute (FTI) that July, under the leadership of its first president, Howard Boudreau.

FTCC's commitment to excellence was recognized early, achieving initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in 1967. Over the years, as industries evolved and the need for a broader educational scope grew, FTI embraced a pivotal transformation. In January 1988, it proudly adopted its current name, Fayetteville Technical Community College, a strategic move to enhance its public image and underscore its expanded offerings in technical and vocational postsecondary education. This change further solidified its role in preparing students for new and expanding industries.

Continuing its legacy of growth and adaptation, Fayetteville Tech celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011, reflecting on half a century of empowering individuals and contributing significantly to the economic vitality of its diverse service area. Today, FTCC remains dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality education that directly responds to the needs of students and the regional workforce, fostering lifelong learning and career success.
