The college's rich history began in 1961 as the Fayetteville Area Industrial Education Center (IEC), founded under the leadership of John Standridge. This initial endeavor focused on equipping high school graduates and adult learners with job-ready skills. A pivotal moment arrived in 1963 when, following the establishment of the statewide Community College System, the IEC officially transformed into Fayetteville Technical Institute (FTI). Further evolution occurred in 1988, as FTI became Fayetteville Technical Community College, a strategic name change designed to elevate the perception and accessibility of technical and vocational postsecondary education.
