Since its founding in 1968, Feather River College has lived by its motto: "Small college, mountains of opportunity." The college's journey began in 1968, established to fulfill the critical need for higher education in rural Plumas County. Initially operating from a temporary site at the Plumas County Fairgrounds, the college quickly found its permanent home, moving to its present location in April 1971. A pivotal moment arrived in July 1988 when, after many years as part of the distant Peralta Community College District, Feather River College successfully petitioned to become an independent, locally controlled community college district, solidifying its commitment to serving its community directly.

With an enrollment of approximately 1600 students, Feather River College prides itself on offering a personalized educational experience often found only in smaller settings.
