Fort Valley State University (FVSU) stands as a beacon of educational excellence and a proud Public Land-Grant Historically Black University (HBCU) in Georgia. FVSU's story began in 1939 with the consolidation of two pioneering institutions, Fort Valley High and Industrial School (founded in 1890) and the State Teachers and Agricultural College of Forsyth (founded in 1902). Crucially, in 1949, during a period of segregated public education, the Georgia General Assembly officially designated FVSU as the Land-Grant College for Negroes in Georgia. This landmark decision cemented its vital role in providing access to quality higher education and advancing agricultural research and extension services for the Black community.
