The university's rich history began with a unique consolidation in 1939, bringing together the Fort Valley High and Industrial School and the State Teachers and Agricultural College of Forsyth. This foundation laid the groundwork for an institution that would play a crucial role in education during a pivotal time in American history. In 1949, FVSU was officially designated as the Land-Grant College for Negroes in Georgia, a testament to its commitment to providing vital agricultural and mechanical education during the era of Jim Crow laws and segregation.
