The college boasts a rich and storied history, tracing its origins back to April 1913 when it was established as Fullerton Junior College. Founded by Fullerton High principal Delbert Brunton, it initially provided postgraduate study for students in a predominantly agricultural community. By 1922, it was reorganized as an independent junior college district, and by 1936, it proudly moved to its own 14-acre campus, marking a significant milestone in its journey of expansion and independence.

Fullerton College is committed to continuous improvement, evidenced by substantial investments in its facilities. Thanks to a $239 million facilities bond measure passed in 2002, nearly $135 million was allotted to the college for renovations and new constructions, including the opening of a modern library in 2005. Further securing its future, a 2014 bond measure will provide the North Orange County Community College District with $574 million for construction and renovation projects over the next 25 years. Academically, the college remains at the forefront, notably introducing a pioneering American Indian and Indigenous Studies degree program in 2021.
