Future Generations University stands as a distinctive private online graduate school, dedicated to equipping mid-career community development practitioners with the advanced skills needed to foster sustainable change. The university's roots trace back to a critical challenge posed by UNICEF in 1992: how to scale successful local development projects globally and sustain them with local resources. This led to the formation of the Future Generations NGO by Daniel C. Taylor and his father Carl E. Taylor, pioneering the innovative SEED-SCALE approach. This methodology focuses on identifying local successes, transforming them into community-based Action Learning Centres, and then systematically facilitating community-to-community knowledge transfer.

Building upon the NGO's global reach and groundbreaking work, Future Generations Graduate School was founded in 2003. It emerged from a recognized need to formalize and share the expertise garnered over years of fieldwork across continents, from Tibet to Afghanistan. Students at Future Generations University engage with a curriculum designed for immediate applicability, preparing them to lead impactful initiatives directly within communities, organizations, and governmental bodies around the world.
