Gannon University

Gannon University, rooted in a rich history of academic evolution, has grown from its origins as a two-year diocesan college into a dynamic coeducational university. Initially established in 1933 as Cathedral College, it quickly transformed, becoming the four-year Gannon College of Arts and Sciences in 1944. This institution, named for Bishop John Mark Gannon, has always been driven by a forward-thinking vision, significantly expanding its reach and offerings over the decades.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1964 when Gannon became coeducational, opening its doors to a broader student body and fostering a more diverse learning environment. By 1979, its commitment to comprehensive education was recognized with university status. The spirit of collaboration and expansion continued with the merger of the all-girls Villa Maria College in 1989, enriching Gannon's academic portfolio and notably establishing the respected Villa Maria School of Nursing.

Today, Gannon University continues to build on this legacy of growth, evidenced by its exciting plans to merge with Ursuline College in 2024. This forthcoming integration will further enhance Gannon's academic landscape, creating the Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University and broadening opportunities for students across various programs.
