Gannon University

Gannon University, with its rich history and commitment to growth, offers a dynamic educational experience. What began in 1933 as the two-year Cathedral College has blossomed into a comprehensive university, continually adapting to meet the needs of its students. Named for Bishop John Mark Gannon, whose vision guided its early development, the institution first became Gannon College of Arts and Sciences, a four-year men's school, before opening its doors to women in 1964 and achieving university status in 1979.

The university's journey of expansion includes significant mergers that have broadened its academic offerings and enriched its community. In 1989, Gannon integrated Villa Maria College, a respected all-girls school, retaining its legacy through the Villa Maria School of Nursing. Most recently, in 2024, Gannon University approved plans to merge with Ursuline College, further expanding its reach and creating the "Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University."
