About Garrett College

Garrett College: Where community, innovation, and opportunity converge.

Garrett College, a dynamic public community college founded in 1966, invites students to "Experience. Explore. Excel." Nestled in McHenry, Maryland, it stands as a cornerstone of educational and recreational life, known for its modern facilities and a commitment to student success within a supportive community environment.

Originally established as Garrett Community College, the institution has a rich history of growth and adaptation. After its founding, the Board of Trustees secured its scenic McHenry campus site in 1968, officially opening its doors to students in 1971. This foundational period set the stage for its evolution, culminating in its present name, Garrett College, adopted in 2002.

Today, Garrett College offers a vibrant student experience characterized by state-of-the-art resources. The campus boasts the expansive 42,500-square-foot Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC), completed in 2012, which provides a gymnasium, a six-lane competition pool, and a fully equipped fitness facility. Furthermore, academic excellence is fostered within a modern STEM building opened in 2018, and the performing arts thrive in a brand-new center, unveiled in 2022, ensuring a well-rounded and engaging environment for all students.
