Grand Canyon University (GCU) stands out as a vibrant and rapidly growing private for-profit institution, guided by its inspiring motto, "Find Your Purpose." With a massive student body exceeding 100,000, GCU offers a dynamic academic experience designed to help individuals discover and achieve their personal and professional goals. The university's journey began in 1949 as Grand Canyon College, founded in Prescott, Arizona, by the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention. Its original mission was to provide local Baptists with access to higher education closer to home, offering college degrees without the need to travel to Baptist colleges in Texas or Oklahoma. Just two years later, in 1951, the college strategically relocated to its current, more central home in Phoenix, setting the stage for significant expansion.

By 1984, in preparation for its 40th anniversary, the institution underwent a pivotal transformation, officially becoming Grand Canyon University, reflecting its expanded scope and offerings. This transition also saw a shift in governance from the Southern Baptist Convention to its dedicated GCU Board of Trustees. While specific academic strengths are vast across its many programs, GCU's long-standing commitment to providing accessible higher education and fostering a purposeful student experience remains at its core, helping students find their calling.
