Guilford Technical Community College

Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) stands as a vital educational cornerstone for Guilford County, steadfastly committed to equipping its residents with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a dynamic job market. Established on April 3, 1958, as the Guilford Industrial Education Center, its founding mission was clear: to train workers for the booming technical jobs fueled by the region's rapid manufacturing growth. Today, GTCC proudly serves over 35,000 students annually, making it the third-largest community college in North Carolina.

From its humble beginnings with 50 students in two classes, GTCC has undergone significant evolution to meet the changing needs of its community. In 1965, it was elevated to Guilford Technical Institute, gaining the authority to grant associate degrees. Further expanding its academic reach, the institution became Guilford Technical Community College in 1983, when it received approval to add a crucial college transfer program. This progression underscores GTCC's consistent dedication to providing comprehensive educational pathways, from vocational training to routes for higher education.

GTCC boasts a robust academic portfolio, offering an impressive 93 degrees, 26 diplomas, and 78 certificates across 90 unique programs. This includes innovative fields like Health Care Management Technology and Cyber Crime Technology, added to keep pace with industry demands. A standout feature is the unique Larry Gatlin School of Entertainment Technology, launched in 2000. This nationally recognized program offers associate degrees in specialized areas such as Recording Engineering, Concert Sound and Lighting, Artist Management, and Music Performance, making it a singular offering in North Carolina and drawing attention from institutions nationwide. Beyond degree programs, GTCC also provides personal enrichment courses, adult literacy opportunities, and tailored training for businesses.

With its main campus in Jamestown and six additional locations—including campuses in High Point and Greensboro, the Donald W. Cameron Campus, Union Square Campus, an Aviation Campus at PTI Airport, and a Small Business Center—GTCC ensures accessibility across Guilford County. Furthermore, the college fosters academic excellence for younger students through its Middle College programs, available at all locations. These programs offer a diverse curriculum, including Honors courses, emphasizing both academic preparation and holistic personal development.
