Haven University

Haven University stands as a private institution with a rich and distinctive history, tracing its origins back to 1969. Originally chartered as the California Graduate School of Theology, it has evolved significantly, maintaining a commitment to its educational mission under the leadership of current Chancellor Kang Won Lee and President Joshua Smith.

The university's journey began with the vision of William S. McBirnie, an ordained Southern Baptist pastor, educator, and author, alongside collaborators George Crane and Robert Grant. It first opened its doors in 1970 on the campus of the United Community Church in Glendale, California, where initial classroom facilities and a library were established. Throughout its history, Haven University has seen several notable leaders, including McBirnie himself, Holland London, Donald Ellis, and Lawrence Wilkes, under whose presidency the school undertook a significant relocation to the Crystal Cathedral campus before settling into its current home.

With over 6,000 alumni having passed through its doors since its inception, Haven University has built a substantial legacy. While rooted in its initial theological foundation, its transformation into a private university reflects an enduring dedication to higher education.
