Hawkeye Community College

What began as the Waterloo Area Vocational School and later transformed into the Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1966, this institution has consistently adapted to meet the changing needs of its community.

The college's most significant transformation occurred in 1992 when it embraced a "comprehensive" model, dramatically expanding its offerings to include robust programs in the liberal arts and sciences. This strategic shift positioned Hawkeye not just as a hub for skilled trades but as a versatile academic institution, providing a solid foundation for transfer to four-year universities or direct entry into rewarding careers.

In July 1993, reflecting its broad educational scope and community-focused mission, the institution proudly adopted its current name: Hawkeye Community College.
