About Heartland Community College

Heartland Community College: Bridging the gap in central Illinois education since 1990.

Heartland Community College emerged to fill a crucial educational void in central Illinois, providing accessible and affordable higher education to its local district. Before its founding in 1990, residents of its current district lacked a dedicated community college, often having to choose from surrounding institutions. Heartland's establishment marked a significant step in localized educational provision.

Beginning with modest origins in a Normal mall and later expanding to Bloomington, the college eventually consolidated its operations into a modern, dedicated campus in north Normal by 2000. This evolution reflects its growth and commitment to providing a top-tier learning environment.

Today, with a student body of nearly 4,800, Heartland offers a welcoming environment under the leadership of President Keith Cornille. It continues to fulfill its mission by ensuring that local students receive quality education at a lower tuition rate, fostering community growth and individual success right in their own backyard.
