Highline College

Highline College stands out as a vibrant public community college, dedicated to fostering student success and serving as a vital educational hub for the region. Since its inception in 1961 as the first community college in King County, Highline has consistently evolved to meet the dynamic needs of its students and the community. It offers a comprehensive educational experience, preparing students for diverse career paths and further academic pursuits.

The college's rich history is marked by significant growth and adaptation. Established in 1961, its current campus in Des Moines was constructed in 1964, expanding over the years with additional buildings designed to incorporate new technologies and accommodate a growing student body. The institution, initially known as Highline College, adopted the name Highline Community College in 1967 following the Washington State Legislature's Community College Act. However, in a move reflecting its advanced academic offerings, its board of trustees voted in June 2014 to revert to the name Highline College.

Academically, Highline College is a leader in accessible higher education, making a significant leap in its offerings by introducing four Bachelor of Applied Science degree programs starting in the fall of 2014. These programs underscore Highline's commitment to providing robust, career-focused education. Beyond its main campus, the college extends its reach and learning opportunities through specialized facilities like the Marine Science and Technology (MaST) Center at Redondo Beach, as well as additional service-area locations in Burien and White Center, ensuring broad access to quality education for its 15,375 students.
