About Hilbert College

Hilbert College: A Franciscan-rooted institution evolving to meet modern educational needs.

Hilbert College, a private institution rooted in the values of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, offers a dynamic educational experience on its welcoming 60-acre suburban campus. With a student body of nearly 1,000, Hilbert prides itself on its journey from a specialized teacher training school to a comprehensive college providing a diverse range of four-year, graduate, adult, and online programs. It’s a place where tradition meets innovation, preparing students for impactful careers and lives.

The college's rich history began in 1957 as the Immaculata Teacher Training School, founded by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph to educate its members. Named in honor of Mother Colette Hilbert, the institution quickly evolved, admitting laywomen in 1964 and becoming co-educational in 1969. This pivotal moment, alongside a broadened curriculum beyond teacher training, officially marked its transformation into Hilbert College. This expansion laid the groundwork for the inclusive and forward-thinking institution it is today.

Hilbert College has continuously adapted to the changing educational landscape, joining the NCAA in 1992 to introduce four-year degrees and later adding its first graduate programs in 2011. The commitment to accessibility expanded further with adult and evening bachelor-level programs in 2012, and the launch of Hilbert College Global in 2021, offering robust online learning opportunities. Beyond academics, the vibrant campus life is supported by 11 modern buildings, including various residence halls and athletic fields, all fostering a close-knit community experience. The college also boasts an expanding athletics program, recently adding football, men's and women's track & field, and women's ice hockey, reflecting its dedication to holistic student development.
