Holmes Community College

Discover Holmes Community College, an institution with deep roots tracing back to its founding in 1911 as the Holmes County Agricultural High School. Nestled in Goodman, Mississippi, its beginnings were marked by a spirit of community, with the town donating 40 acres and the college's board securing an additional 42 acres to build a foundation for learning.

A significant shift occurred in 1922 when the Mississippi Legislature paved the way for agricultural high schools to evolve by adding college-level instruction. Holmes Community College quickly embraced this opportunity, introducing its first year of collegiate studies during the 1925-1926 academic session, marking its initial step into higher education.

By the 1928-1929 school year, Holmes had fully expanded its offerings, incorporating a sophomore year of college work. This transformation cemented its role as a vital two-year institution, underscoring its historical significance in providing accessible and quality education to students in the region, evolving from a local high school into a community college dedicated to academic growth.
