Established in 1956 by Franciscan priest Eusèbe M. Ménard, Holy Apostles initially served as a preparatory seminary exclusively for men aspiring to the Catholic priesthood. A pivotal moment in its history occurred in 1972 when, adapting to changing needs, it began admitting non-seminarians, including women, transforming its educational landscape. This evolution continued with the introduction of a Master of Divinity program in 1977, solidifying its status as a major and minor seminary.

The college further expanded its reach in 1982 by making graduate degrees available to lay students, demonstrating a commitment to universal access to higher theological and philosophical education. Holy Apostles became a trailblazer in online learning, launching its first online graduate programs in Theology and Philosophy in 1998. This commitment to flexibility deepened with the introduction of an online Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies and, notably, a fully online undergraduate program approved in 2014, ensuring its specialized Catholic curriculum reaches students globally.
