Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) stands as a beacon for healthcare in the Mountain West, uniquely founded to address Idaho's critical physician shortage. Before ICOM's establishment in 2016, Idaho was the most populous state without its own medical school, ranking 49th in physicians per capita. ICOM was conceived to bridge this gap, committing to osteopathic medicine and training future doctors dedicated to serving underserved communities in the region and beyond.

Founded by Dan Burrell in partnership with Idaho State University and key state officials, including an announcement from former Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter, ICOM quickly began its mission. Dr. Robert Hasty served as its founding dean, guiding the institution through its formative years. The school's rapid progression from pre-accreditation in 2017 to full accreditation by COCA after its first graduating class is a testament to its robust academic program and dedication to excellence.

ICOM's academic strength is underscored by the remarkable success of its inaugural class, which matriculated in 2018 and graduated in May 2022 with an astounding 100% residency match rate. This achievement not only solidified ICOM's full accreditation status but also highlights the rigorous education and comprehensive support provided to its 600 students, preparing them to become competent, compassionate physicians ready to impact healthcare delivery.
