Illinois Valley Community College

Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) stands as a cornerstone of accessible education in the picturesque Illinois Valley. Since its inception, IVCC has been dedicated to empowering students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for thriving careers and continued academic success. Currently led by President Dr. Tracy Morris, this vibrant community college serves a diverse student body of 2,687, fostering a supportive environment where potential flourishes.

The institution's rich history began in 1924 as LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College, starting with a modest class of 32 students. Its initial mission, clear and purposeful, was to lay the groundwork for successful careers, a commitment that continues to define its ethos today. This early period saw the college operating within the facilities provided by the LaSalle-Peru Township High School, guided by its first president, Dr. Thomas J. McCormack.

A pivotal transformation occurred on July 1, 1966, when the college embraced a new identity, becoming Illinois Valley Community College. This name change perfectly captured its expanded reach and significance within the broader Illinois Valley region. Just two years later, in September 1968, IVCC celebrated a major milestone by relocating to its impressive current campus, strategically positioned across the Illinois River. This ambitious move was made possible by an $8.25 million referendum, a testament to the community's belief in the college's vital role.
