Independence Community College (ICC) stands as a vital educational cornerstone in Southeast Kansas, widely recognized for its robust technical programs and its compelling feature in Netflix's "Last Chance U." With a commitment to fostering student success, ICC offers a supportive and dynamic environment where students can pursue academic excellence, develop career-ready skills, and engage in a vibrant campus community.

Established in 1925 as an extension of the local public school system, ICC has grown significantly over the decades. After legally separating in 1967, the college embarked on constructing its modern 68-acre campus, opening its doors to students at the new site in 1970. This journey of expansion continued with the strategic addition of the West Campus in 2010, transforming a former retail space into a hub for cutting-edge technical education and enhancing the college's visibility and accessibility within the community.

Today, ICC provides a diverse array of academic strengths, including popular programs in Allied Health, Cosmetology, Veterinary Technology, and Culinary arts at its West Campus. The main campus further enriches the student experience with facilities like the William Inge Center for the Arts, a Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a modern fitness center, and extensive athletic fields. With multiple residence halls and a close-knit community of 821 students, ICC offers a comprehensive and engaging college experience designed to prepare students for successful careers and continued education.
