Indiana University-East

Indiana University East stands as a vibrant regional baccalaureate college, committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities in Eastern Indiana and beyond. With a student body of 3,490, IU East fosters a close-knit academic environment, offering an impressive portfolio of 60 bachelor's degree options and selected master's programs designed to meet the evolving needs of its community and prepare students for successful careers.

The journey of IU East began in 1967 as an extension at Earlham College, evolving through cooperative efforts with Purdue and Ball State Universities. A significant turning point came in 1969 when dedicated Richmond citizens formed Eastern Indiana Community College, Inc., raising over $1 million to establish a new campus. This profound community support paved the way for Indiana University to assume responsibility, officially establishing Indiana University East on July 1, 1971, as the sixth campus in the esteemed Indiana University regional system. The campus broke ground in 1972, with its first academic facility opening in 1974 and earning its initial accreditation in 1975, cementing its foundational role in regional education.

Since awarding its inaugural bachelor's degrees in 1977, IU East has consistently expanded its academic offerings, ensuring a comprehensive and accessible education. Beyond its primary Richmond campus, the university extends its reach through crucial off-campus initiatives, including the IU East Henry County Danielson Learning Center in New Castle and degree programs offered at the Ivy Tech Community College in Lawrenceburg. With a modern campus featuring facilities like Whitewater Hall, Hayes Hall, and the Student Events and Activities Center, IU East is dedicated to a dynamic learning experience, celebrated by its milestone achievement of conferring its 10,000th degree in 2017.
