Interdenominational Theological Center

The Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) stands as a unique beacon in higher education, born from a visionary idea in the mid-20th century to create a single, collaborative institution dedicated to training and developing African-American Christian ministers. It's renowned for its innovative approach, bringing together diverse denominational traditions under one roof to foster a rich, interdenominational learning environment.

The seed for ITC was planted in the early 1940s, driven by leaders like Benjamin Mays of Morehouse College who recognized the power of collaboration. Mays envisioned a scenario where individual theological schools for African Americans, facing resource limitations, could collectively achieve excellence. This bold concept gained significant support, culminating in ITC's founding in 1958. It began as a joint initiative of four foundational seminaries: Morehouse School of Religion (Baptist), Gammon Theological Seminary (United Methodist), Turner Theological Seminary (African Methodist Episcopal), and Phillips School of Theology (Christian Methodist Episcopal). This pioneering model quickly earned accreditation and established ITC as a pivotal institution in theological education.

ITC offers an unparalleled experience for students seeking to deepen their faith and prepare for ministry.
