Iowa Central Community College

Iowa Central Community College stands as a testament to collaborative educational vision, emerging in 1966 from the strong legacies of three established junior colleges in Fort Dodge, Webster City, and Eagle Grove. This innovative institution was a direct result of Iowa's progressive Area School Act, designed to consolidate resources and expand educational access. Serving a vast Merged Area V that encompasses nine diverse counties and supports 31 public school districts, Iowa Central is deeply embedded in the fabric of its community, providing essential educational pathways.

From its inception, Iowa Central has demonstrated a commitment to growth and comprehensive program offerings. Just five years after its organization, in 1971, the college expanded its reach with the addition of a fourth major center in Storm Lake. Initially focused on secondary career education, the Storm Lake Center has since evolved to offer the full breadth of community college programs, reflecting the institution's adaptability and dedication to meeting regional needs.

A true innovator in higher education accessibility, Iowa Central forged a pioneering cooperative venture with Buena Vista College in 1975. This unique partnership allows students to seamlessly pursue a bachelor's degree by completing their first two years at Iowa Central and then transitioning to Buena Vista College's Fort Dodge Center for their final two years, all through evening classes. This pathway underscores Iowa Central's role not just as a starting point, but as a critical bridge to advanced academic and career goals, empowering nearly 28,000 students to achieve their potential.
