Iowa Lakes Community College

Iowa Lakes Community College stands as a vibrant hub of learning, proudly serving multiple communities across its diverse campuses. Established officially in 1966, the college quickly evolved into a comprehensive institution dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality education. Its unique origin story, marked by strategic mergers and continuous expansion, underscores its commitment to meeting the educational needs of the region.

The college's rich history began with its official establishment by the Iowa Department of Education. This foundational moment set the stage for significant growth, notably through the integration of two respected junior colleges. In 1968, Iowa Lakes merged with Estherville Junior College, an institution with a long-standing legacy dating back to its founding in 1924. This was followed in 1970 by another pivotal merger with Emmetsburg Junior College, which had been serving its community since 1930. These unions transformed Iowa Lakes into a robust multi-campus institution, significantly broadening its reach and educational offerings.

Following its successful mergers, Iowa Lakes Community College continued its expansion to further serve its growing student population and regional communities. Additional campuses were strategically opened in Spencer in the mid-1970s, followed by Spirit Lake in 1984, and Algona in 1986.
