About Itawamba Community College
A dynamic community college evolving since 1920, empowering students across five Mississippi counties.
Itawamba Community College (ICC) stands as a vital educational cornerstone in Northeast Mississippi, offering accessible and quality education to a diverse student body. Known for its strong community ties and adaptive curriculum, ICC is dedicated to equipping students with the skills for immediate employment or a seamless transfer to four-year institutions. Its mission is deeply rooted in fostering regional growth and providing opportunities that enhance the lives of its students and the communities it serves.
The college's rich history traces back to 1920, originating as an extension of the thriving Itawamba County Agricultural High School. While initial plans for college-level work were set back by World War II, the institution officially launched as Itawamba Junior College in 1948, proudly supported by Itawamba, Lee, and Monroe counties. This marked a pivotal moment, as it began offering a full freshman and then sophomore curriculum, steadily expanding its reach to include Pontotoc and Chickasaw counties over the years, solidifying its role as a regional educational hub.
ICC's commitment to growth and student success is perhaps best exemplified by its continually developing Tupelo Campus, established in 1963. What began in vacant city buildings transformed into a substantial 65,500-square-foot complex by 1966, now boasting 11 buildings. Looking ahead, ICC announced a forward-thinking 5-year plan in 2015 for its Tupelo campus, promising a state-of-the-art academic building that will integrate classrooms, a cafeteria, and essential student services, ensuring an engaging and supportive environment for future generations of learners.
