Itawamba Community College

Itawamba Community College stands as a testament to educational evolution, transforming from an extension of an agricultural high school into a vibrant hub for learning across multiple Mississippi counties. Known for its commitment to accessible education and community development, ICC has continually adapted to meet the needs of its diverse student body, fostering an environment where students can thrive.

The college's rich history began in 1920 with the organization of Itawamba County Agricultural High School. Recognizing the growing need for higher education, trustees extended the curriculum for two years of college work in 1941. While World War II paused these ambitions, the vision was revived, leading to the establishment of Itawamba Junior College in March 1948 with crucial support from Itawamba, Lee, and Monroe counties. This pivotal moment saw the introduction of a full freshman curriculum, rapidly followed by sophomore offerings, laying the groundwork for the comprehensive institution it is today.

ICC's reach expanded significantly, gaining support from Pontotoc County in 1953 and Chickasaw County in 1972. A major milestone was the organization of the Tupelo Campus in 1963, which later moved into a substantial 65,500-square-foot complex. Reflecting its broader mission, the institution officially became Itawamba Community College in 1987. Looking to the future, ICC is dedicated to enhancing the student experience, as evidenced by its 2015 five-year plan for the Tupelo Campus, which includes demolishing older buildings to construct a new academic facility housing classrooms, a cafeteria, and essential student services, ensuring a modern and supportive environment for all learners.
