Jackson College

Jackson College, a venerable institution with a rich history of adaptation and growth, has consistently evolved to meet the educational needs of its students. Originally established in 1928 as Jackson Junior College, it began as an integral part of the Jackson Public Schools system, laying foundational academic pathways for countless learners.

The institution underwent a significant transformation in 1962 when local voters approved its separation, marking a pivotal moment in its journey towards greater independence. This autonomy paved the way for further development, culminating in its renaming to Jackson Community College in 1965, reflecting an expanded scope and commitment to local educational enrichment.

In a forward-looking move in June 2013, the college's board of directors approved yet another strategic name change, officially becoming Jackson College. This decision, as articulated by then-president Daniel Phelan, was intentional: the removal of "community" was designed to better represent the institution's highest degree offerings, signaling a broader academic horizon and an ongoing commitment to providing advanced educational opportunities. This rebranding initiative, supported by a $50,000 budget, underscores the college's dedication to its future trajectory.
