Jackson College

Jackson College boasts a fascinating journey of growth and evolution, tracing its origins back to 1928 when it was established as Jackson Junior College. Initially operating as an integral division of the Jackson Public Schools, its early years laid the foundation for accessible local higher education within the community.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1962 when local voters made the significant decision to establish it as a separate, independent entity. This act of community support marked a new era for the institution, solidifying its autonomy. Following this separation, the college officially adopted the name Jackson Community College in 1965, reflecting its dedicated service and expanded role within the region.

The institution’s most recent transformation occurred in June 2013, when its board of directors approved a strategic name change to Jackson College. This decision, as articulated by then-President Daniel Phelan, was designed to reflect the highest degree offerings available, signifying a move beyond the traditional "community" college designation. A substantial $50,000 budget was allocated for rebranding efforts, ensuring all items bearing the college's name and logo would align with its ambitious new identity. Jackson College continues to evolve, serving its students with a forward-looking vision.
