Nestled in Jacksonville, Florida, Jacksonville University (JU) stands as a dynamic private institution with a rich history of evolution and growth. Known for its strong academic programs and spirited Division I athletics, JU attracts a diverse student body from over 40 U.S. states and approximately 45 countries worldwide, fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community.

Originally founded in 1934 as William J. Porter University, a private two-year college, the institution embarked on a transformative journey. After several relocations, it secured its permanent 260-acre campus in Jacksonville's Arlington district in 1947. A pivotal moment came in 1958 when it merged with the Jacksonville College of Music and officially became Jacksonville University, graduating its first four-year class in 1959 and achieving full accreditation as a four-year school by 1961. The 1960s marked a period of substantial growth, highlighted by increased enrollment and the construction of new dormitories and facilities.

Despite facing challenges in the early 1970s, Jacksonville University demonstrated resilience, reconfiguring its focus to primarily a liberal arts college in the 1990s and launching significant fundraising and campus development initiatives. Today, JU continues to thrive, offering sought-after majors such as aviation management, biology, nursing, business, and marine science. As the home of the JU Dolphins, the university fields 18 varsity athletics teams, providing an engaging and active student experience within a large city campus setting.
