The college's rich history began in March 1946 when visionaries John A. Gupton Jr. and his wife Bernadean acquired the historic Gov. Hill McAlister Mansion. This iconic location became the proud home of the John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science, officially opening its doors on September 25, 1946. John A. Gupton Jr. served as its President, with Bernadean guiding its educational direction.

Just two days after its opening, on September 27, 1946, the first cohort of 26 students embarked on their nine-month journey of rigorous study.
