Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) stands as a beacon of education, a venerable private historically black university with a rich legacy stretching back to 1867. Founded post-Civil War with the inspiring motto "Sit Lux" (Let there be light), JCSU has consistently dedicated itself to providing transformative educational experiences, shaping leaders, and contributing significantly to the intellectual and social landscape.

Established initially as the Biddle Memorial Institute, it evolved through significant philanthropic support to become Biddle University, and ultimately The Johnson C. Smith University.
