About Johnson County Community College

JCCC: Empowering futures through accessible, community-driven learning since 1969.

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is a vibrant public community college deeply committed to its motto: "Changing lives through learning." Established in 1969, it emerged from a crucial need to serve Johnson County's rapidly expanding population. This institution quickly became a cornerstone of education, offering accessible pathways for nearly 19,000 students to achieve their academic and professional goals within a supportive community environment.

The college's history is rooted in community foresight and significant investment. Recognizing the growing demand for local higher education, Johnson County Commissioners formed a committee in 1963, leading to the formal establishment of JCCC in 1967 after a successful county-wide election. A pivotal moment came in 1969 when voters approved a substantial $12.9 million bond, securing the current 200-acre campus in Overland Park and paving the way for construction to begin in 1970, with classes moving to the new site by 1972.

JCCC prides itself on continually evolving to meet modern educational demands, as evidenced by its state-of-the-art facilities. Recent additions include the Regnier Center and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, both opened in 2007, providing enhanced learning and cultural experiences. The environmentally conscious Galileo's Pavilion debuted in 2012, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. Further expanding its specialized offerings, the impressive Hospitality & Culinary Academy broke ground in 2012 and opened its doors in the fall of 2013, providing cutting-edge training for future industry leaders. JCCC remains a dynamic hub for diverse academic pursuits and hands-on learning, preparing students for successful careers and seamless transfer opportunities.
