Jones County Junior College

Jones County Junior College, now informally known as Jones College, stands as a testament to pioneering accessible higher education in Mississippi. The college's journey began when Mississippi permitted agricultural high schools to offer college-level studies. The Jones County Agricultural High School, originally founded in 1911, seamlessly integrated these courses, becoming the Jones County Agricultural High School and Junior College. Its first cohort of 26 students enrolled in September 1927, marking a pivotal moment in its history. This unique dual-entity structure continued until 1957 when the Junior College officially separated, establishing its independent identity.
