Kapiolani Community College

Nestled on the scenic slopes of Diamond Head in vibrant Waikīkī, Kapiolani Community College (KCC) offers a unique and enriching educational journey. Originally founded with a specific vocational focus, KCC has evolved into a comprehensive community college within the prestigious University of Hawaiʻi system, attracting students seeking both academic excellence and an unparalleled island experience.

KCC's story began in 1946 as Kapiʻolani Technical College, administered by the Territory of Hawaii. Initially situated near President William McKinley High School, it specialized in crucial food service vocational training, laying the groundwork for its commitment to practical, career-focused education. This early foundation speaks to a legacy of preparing students for vital roles within the community.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1965 when the institution transitioned, becoming a public college under the University of Hawaiʻi and adopting its current name. The college experienced rapid growth throughout the 1970s, necessitating larger facilities to accommodate its expanding programs and student population. By the 1980s, all programs were successfully transferred to the new Fort Ruger campus, establishing KCC in its iconic location and solidifying its presence as a key educational institution in one of the world's most beautiful settings.
