Kentucky Mountain Bible College

Kentucky Mountain Bible College (KMBC) stands as a testament to faith and unwavering dedication, rooted deeply in the heart of Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian foothills. Established in 1931 by visionary educators Lela G. McConnell and Martha Archer, KMBC was founded with a singular, powerful mission: to equip young individuals with a divine calling for impactful work in ministry and missions. It began as an urgent response to a clear need, offering rigorous training that prepared students not just academically, but spiritually and practically, for lives of service.

The academic journey at KMBC, initially a comprehensive two-year Bible course, quickly expanded to a three-year program. Students delved into a rich curriculum encompassing theology, psychology, ethics, church history, English, speech, Greek, and homiletics, alongside practical studies in instrumental and vocal music. This holistic approach ensured graduates were well-versed in biblical principles and equipped with the communication and leadership skills essential for their calling.

KMBC's early history is marked by extraordinary resilience. Barely a decade after its founding, the college faced two catastrophic floods in 1939. The most devastating, a flash flood in July, completely destroyed the original campus and tragically claimed the lives of several students and faculty. Yet, from the depths of this immense loss, the spirit of KMBC endured. This profound experience forged a powerful legacy of perseverance, underscoring the deep commitment of its founders and community to their educational and spiritual mission, a spirit that continues to define the institution today.
