Labette Community College

Labette Community College, a proud public institution serving 1,446 students, holds a rich history of commitment to accessible higher education. Led by President Mark Watkins, LCC stands by its motto, "Ubi de te Omnia," reflecting a dedication to comprehensive learning experiences that empower its community members for success.

Established in 1923 as Parsons Junior College, the institution began as an innovative two-year extension program of the Parsons Senior High School. It quickly became a vital "jumping off point" for students aspiring to continue their education at four-year universities. Its founding addressed the growing demand for better public school systems in Parsons, a city rapidly expanding with the arrival of the MKT Railroad.

The college significantly evolved in 1935, reorganizing into a four-year system that encompassed grades eleven through fourteen. This adaptation allowed Parsons Junior College to further solidify its role as a central educational hub in the community. Over the years, the institution demonstrated its responsiveness to educational trends, changing its name to Labette Community Junior College in 1967 to align with the distinction between public community colleges and private junior colleges.

This journey culminated in 1980 with the adoption of its current and well-recognized name, Labette Community College. Throughout its history, LCC has consistently served as a cornerstone for higher education, providing a vital two-year Associates program and demonstrating a lasting commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of its local community.
