Labette Community College

Labette Community College stands as a proud public institution with a rich history, deeply intertwined with the growth and educational needs of its community. Founded in 1923, LCC has consistently served as a vital educational cornerstone, offering accessible higher education and acting as a crucial stepping stone for students seeking to further their academic journeys.

Initially established as Parsons Junior College, it began as an innovative two-year extension program of the Senior High School, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to public education. Its early mission was clear: to provide a "jumping off point" for students aspiring to continue their education at a four-year university. The college quickly adapted to the community's evolving needs, expanding in 1935 to a unique four-year junior college system, encompassing grades eleven through fourteen.

The college's evolution continued with a significant renaming in 1967, becoming Labette Community Junior College. This change reflected a broader trend, distinguishing publicly funded community colleges from private degree-granting junior colleges. By 1980, the institution fully embraced its identity as Labette Community College, the name it proudly carries today, signifying its enduring commitment to local educational excellence.

With a current student body of 1,446, led by President Mark Watkins, LCC remains a pivotal community focal point.
