Lake Superior State University

Nestled on the scenic shores of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Lake Superior State University (LSSU) offers a distinctive educational experience. Often called "Lake State" or "Soo Tech," LSSU stands out for its unique international collaboration, proudly flying both Canadian and U.S. flags on campus. Its prime location on the Canada–United States border fosters strong partnerships, including joint programs with Sault College and Algoma University in Ontario, offering students a truly cross-cultural academic journey.

LSSU's campus is steeped in history, residing on the former grounds of Fort Brady, which operated from 1894 to 1944. Several of its impressive 115-acre campus buildings are even listed on the National Register of Historic Places, providing a rich backdrop for modern learning. Established in 1946, the university initially served returning World War II veterans and the communities of the Eastern Upper Peninsula, evolving from the Sault Ste. Marie Residence Center of the Michigan College of Mining & Technology into the autonomous institution it is today.

With approximately 1,669 students (Fall 2023), LSSU embraces its motto, "Believe in Blue. Redefining the Classroom." The university primarily offers a robust selection of bachelor's and associate degrees, along with valuable certificates, catering to diverse career paths.
