Established in 1949 as an adult vocational training program, LWTech has a rich history of adapting to community needs and advancing educational opportunities. What began with a single sewing program steadily expanded, leading to the construction of dedicated facilities in the 1980s. A pivotal moment arrived in 1991 when LWTech gained independence from the school district, transforming into a degree-granting technical college. This evolution solidified its commitment to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art education, a commitment further underscored by the initiation of the state's first new dental program in 22 years in 1996.

The institute's growth continued into the new millennium, marked by significant facility expansions like the 60,000-square-foot technology building and the 83,000-square-foot Allied Health building, designed with direct input from faculty, students, and regional employers.
