The institution overcame early challenges, including a fire that destroyed its initial facility, and later gained independence and accreditation, establishing its unique identity within the Texas State University System. Today, LSC-O is experiencing remarkable growth, having expanded its student body significantly in recent years to 3,613. Its academic strengths include highly regarded vocational nursing and welding programs, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard-certified Maritime program.
