Lamar State College-Port Arthur

Lamar State College-Port Arthur (LSCPA) stands as a proud two-year public community college in Port Arthur, Texas, with a rich legacy spanning over a century. Established in 1909 as Port Arthur College, LSCPA has consistently focused on providing robust vocational training, initially specializing in critical fields like business and electronics education. It quickly became a vital resource for those seeking practical skills in stenography, secretarial work, bookkeeping, accounting, and radio, demonstrating its commitment to workforce development from its earliest days.

The institution's evolution over the decades reflects its adaptability and commitment to growth. By 1925, it boasted a 15-acre campus and even established its own radio station, KPAC, in 1933, showcasing its innovative spirit. Its growth continued through the mid-20th century, with new facilities added to support its expanding vocational programs, including a significant classroom-administration building in 1967 and two new vocational buildings in 1973 and 1974.

In a pivotal move in 1975, Port Arthur College joined Lamar University, later becoming a designated component of the Lamar University System in 1983. A major milestone was achieved in 1991 when it received degree-granting status from the Texas legislature and earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, solidifying its academic credibility. Further reinforcing its identity, the college became part of the Texas State University System in 1995 and was officially renamed Lamar State College Port Arthur in 1999. Today, with a student body of 2,740, LSCPA continues its tradition of delivering quality education, preparing students for successful careers through its dedicated programs and community-focused approach.
