Langston University

Langston University stands as a beacon of educational opportunity, proudly serving as Oklahoma's only historically Black public land-grant university. Rooted in a significant history, Langston University was established as a direct result of the Second Morrill Act, ensuring higher education access for African Americans. Initially known as the Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University, it was later renamed in honor of the civil rights icon, John Mercer Langston. The university has been home to notable figures like poet Melvin B. Tolson and played a crucial role in the civil rights movement, notably through the Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher case which led to the establishment of its law school.
