About Latin American Bible Institute
A historic institution equipping Latino leaders for ministry and community impact since 1926.
Latin American Bible Institute (LABI College) stands as a beacon for aspiring Latino leaders, proudly carrying the torch as one of the United States' oldest educational institutions dedicated to serving the Hispanic community. Founded in 1926, LABI is committed to its powerful motto: "Equipping the next generation of Latino leaders," preparing students not just for ministry but for impactful roles within their communities. Under the leadership of President Dr. Marty Harris, the college fosters a close-knit and supportive environment for its 92 students, ensuring a personalized educational journey.
The story of LABI College is one of vision and resilience, beginning on October 1, 1926. Miss Alice E. Luce, an Anglican missionary, along with Ralph and Richard Williams, established the Latin American Bible Institute in collaboration with the Glad Tidings Bible Institute. Miss Luce's dedication to creating a Bible school specifically for the Hispanic community laid the groundwork for LABI's enduring legacy. As the institution grew and the demand for ministerial training surged, LABI underwent several strategic relocations: first from San Diego to La Mesa in 1935, and then to Los Angeles in 1941 to accommodate its expanding student body.
The need for more extensive facilities led LABI to acquire land in La Puente, California, which remains its vibrant campus today. A significant milestone was reached in 1950 when the college proudly celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class at this new location. As a private institution, LABI College continues its vital work, offering a specialized educational experience focused on biblical studies and leadership development. For students and families seeking an institution with a rich heritage, a clear mission, and a commitment to nurturing future Latino leaders, LABI College offers a unique and impactful path.
