Established in 1926, LABI holds a distinct place in American history as one of the nation's oldest educational institutions specifically dedicated to serving the Hispanic community. Under the leadership of President Dr. Marty Harris, LABI fosters an intimate and focused learning environment for its 92 students, preparing them to make a significant impact in their communities and beyond.

The institute's captivating history traces back to October 1, 1926, when Miss Alice E. Luce, a visionary former Anglican missionary, collaborated with Ralph and Richard Williams to found the Latin American Bible Institute in San Diego. This pioneering endeavor, carried out in partnership with Glad Tidings Bible Institute, was driven by Miss Luce's unwavering commitment to establishing a Bible school uniquely tailored to the Hispanic community. This foundational vision remains the enduring force behind LABI-CA's continued success and vital contribution to leadership development.

LABI's journey is also one of dynamic growth and adaptation. As its reputation grew and student numbers swelled, the institution strategically relocated twice to meet demand. In 1935, it moved from San Diego to the neighboring town of La Mesa, California, and then in 1941, it made a further move to Los Angeles to accommodate the increasing number of students seeking ministerial training. Recognizing the need for even more extensive facilities, LABI acquired land in La Puente, California, which proudly serves as its current campus where, in 1950, the college celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class, marking a pivotal milestone in its storied history.
