Lewis University

Lewis University, a private institution founded in 1932, stands as a beacon of education with a vibrant community of over 7,000 students. With its roots deeply embedded in aviation technology, Lewis has evolved into a comprehensive university known for its commitment to academic excellence and a diverse array of programs, maintaining a strong emphasis on its pioneering aviation studies.

The university's rich history began as the Holy Name Technical School, named in part after philanthropist Frank J. Lewis, whose generosity funded early campus development. From its inception, the institution prioritized aviation, becoming the origin of its highly regarded Department of Aviation and Transportation Studies. During World War II, Lewis played a crucial role, dedicating its campus to the United States Navy for pilot training, a testament to its enduring connection to flight.

Post-war, Lewis expanded its vision, readmitting women in 1949 and broadening its curriculum to embrace the arts and sciences. This transformation culminated in its re-designation as Lewis University in 1973. Today, Lewis offers an impressive selection of over 80 undergraduate majors, an accelerated degree completion option for working adults, and 35 graduate programs. Its academic reach extends beyond its main campus, with degree programs also available in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reflecting its dedication to accessible, high-quality education under the leadership of President David J.
