Lipscomb University

Lipscomb University stands as a beacon of Christian higher education, committed to nurturing students within a liberal arts tradition while grounding them deeply in biblical principles. Established in 1891 by visionaries David Lipscomb and James A. Harding, the university, initially known as the Nashville Bible School, has evolved into a comprehensive institution deeply affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Its founding mission was to provide an extensive curriculum comparable to any in the nation, paired with thorough instruction in the Bible, preparing individuals for maximum usefulness in life, regardless of their chosen profession.

The university's rich history is marked by a steadfast dedication to its faith-based mission, reflected in its requirement for full-time, undergraduate faculty to be members of a Church of Christ. Over the decades, Lipscomb expanded its academic offerings, graduating its first senior class in 1948 and achieving accreditation in 1954. By 1988, it reached Level III status, granting master's degrees and officially becoming Lipscomb University, signifying its growth and expanded academic reach.
