Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, widely known as LSU, stands as a prominent public land-grant research university and the flagship institution of Louisiana. Founded in 1860 as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy near Pineville, it carries a deep-rooted military tradition, earning the affectionate nickname "The Ole War Skule." The university's history is marked by resilience and evolution, from its early days under superintendent William Tecumseh Sherman to its relocation to Baton Rouge after its original campus burned.
