Lourdes University

Lourdes University, nestled in Sylvania, Ohio, has a rich legacy rooted in the Franciscan tradition, evolving from an institution dedicated to the Sisters of St. Francis into a co-educational liberal arts university. Its story began in 1916 with Mother Adelaide Sandusky, who established the Sylvania Franciscans, eventually leading to the founding of Lourdes Junior College in 1958. Initially created as an extension campus to educate the Sisters of St. Francis, it quickly grew in stature, earning accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in 1964 as a standalone liberal arts institution.
