Nestled in Batesville, Arkansas, Lyon College stands as the oldest independent college in the state, boasting a rich heritage dating back to its founding in 1872. Originally established as Arkansas College by the visionary Isaac J. Long and a group associated with the Presbyterian church, the institution quickly became a cornerstone of higher education in the region, with its first permanent building, Morrow Hall, occupied in 1873.

Over its long history, the institution underwent a significant transformation, officially becoming Lyon College in 1994.
