Tracing its roots back to 1912 as the Madison Continuation School, Madison College boasts a rich and adaptable history. From its early focus on vocational education, citizenship, and homemaking, it quickly evolved, becoming Madison Vocational School in 1921. The college played a vital role during challenging times like the Great Depression, introducing artisan craft courses, and notably contributed to the war effort during WWII by offering specialized night-shift courses for wartime manufacturing skills. A significant transformation in 1966 saw the introduction of college transfer and credit-bearing courses, greatly broadening its academic scope.

Today, Madison College is a vibrant institution deeply committed to accessible education, evidenced by its strategically located campuses. While its primary campus moved to a larger, modern facility near Truax Field in 1987, the college continues to expand its community reach. This dedication culminated in the opening of its expanded Goodman South Campus in 2019, specifically designed to serve Madison's most underserved communities.
